About Therapy
Every person encounters difficulties during their lives. Contemplating about going to therapy shows that you actively trying to find what helps you best. When you participate in a psychotherapy session, the therapist holds a safe and confidential space where you can explore what troubles you. Also, they accept you as you are, are open and non-judgemental and empathise with you. Through this unique therapeutic relationship that is formed between you and the therapist, there is room for exploration, understanding and change. There are different reasons why people decide to go to therapy. For some, they know what troubles them, for others it is not so easy to tell 'what's going on'. Similarly, there are people who feel therapy is a great process right from the beginning, for others the idea of starting therapy can be daunting. Therapists are here to attend to your needs, gently follow your pace, and create a trusting relationship which empowers you to understand yourselves better and to live a more satisfying life.
My Approach
There are many forms of psychotherapy. I am trained in the person-centred approach and art therapy. It's a good combination because when it's difficult to describe how we feel verbally, art can come in handy to express our emotions. However, I would only use art (and any other technique) if the client feels comfortable with that. As a person-centred therapist, I believe that every person has the potential to heal, grow and thrive. Even when this can feel very far away for a person who is in the mist of their struggle.
How I work
I offer to meet you wherever and however you are in your life right now. I accept you as you are and regard your feelings as authentic. During our therapy session, there is time and a safe and confidential space for you to explore your emotions. Through our therapeutic relationship, I will provide an environment for you to ground yourself to gain a better understanding of your struggles and what tools are there to help you. I believe that each person is different, so I don’t judge you or your feelings and I do not use labels or put expectations on you. Instead, I carefully listen to your experiences and empower you to find your inner resources and discover parts of yourself that might have been hidden. I am active in the therapeutic process, which means that I won't tell you what to do, instead my aim is to help you reconnect with yourself to discover your own answers to your questions. It is a collaboration in which we work together for you to gain more insight into who you are and how you can develop coping strategies.
